World Trade Day 2007
Highlighting International Trade in Kentucky
Some 56 international dignitaries representing 20 nations joined government and business leaders from throughout the Commonwealth to celebrate the 15th Annual World Trade Day event on June 5th at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.A special highlight of the event was the outstanding keynote addresses given by Michael Francesconi of UPS & David Flanery of Papa John's International. Michael Francesconi, Vice President, UPS Airlines Public Affairs and Strategic Communications, manages the airline’s efforts to build strong government partnerships and media relations and to strengthen the company's reputation among the public and employees. Additionally, he works to ensure UPS possesses the domestic and international aviation authorities necessary to link UPS customers and businesses all over the world. In his address, Michael discussed his experience at UPS with international related issues and the importance of international business for Kentucky. David Flanery has served as Chief Financial Officer of Papa John’s International, Inc. since January 2004. As CFO, he is responsible for financial planning and analysis, investor relations, treasury management, tax planning/compliance, financial reporting, functional accounting areas including payroll and accounts payable and the overall internal controls structure of the organization. In his address, David described Papa John's success stories in international business and how in only 22 years they have grown from 250 restaurants to approximately 3000 restaurants worldwide.
Dignitary Guests
A delegation of dignitaries from foreign Embassies, Consulates and Trade Commissions throughout the United States traveled to Kentucky to promote trade and investment opportunities with their countries. A 'Tour the World' trade fair allowed international businesses in Kentucky to discuss trade issues specific to their company with each of the foreign officials. Among the countries represented at World Trade Day 2007 were Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, France, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, & Vietnam.
World Trade Success Award Winners
For the past 15 years, the Kentucky World Trade Center (KWTC) has recognized firms for their outstanding successes and contributions to international trade during the World Trade Success awards luncheon. As the featured event of World Trade Day, the awards luncheon has become Kentucky's largest annual gathering of international trade professionals, with over 450 executives and government officials in attendance this year.This year the KWTC is proud to congratulate the following four winners of the World Trade Success awards competition, selected from a pool of nominations and entries by a panel of business professionals:
