The Kentucky World Trade Center hosted a delegation from Normandy, France last week. Normandy will be hosting World Equestrian Games in 2014. Five members of the French delegation, lead by Mr. Philippe Bonneau, Vice –President of Basse-Normandy Regional met with the organizers of the Alltech WEG and business leaders in Kentucky. A meeting was held at the KWTC to discuss the economic benefit of hosting WEG and also to get a few pointers on how to prepare and host a successful WEG in France.
As predicted, many international companies will be attending the tradeshow and exhibiting their products during the Alltech WEG. In recent months, the KWTC has been contacted by these international participants to promote trade between Kentucky and their countries. The KWTC will be setting up one on one meetings to match up the foreign companies with the Kentucky companies.

Obama Announces Timeframe for Advancing Korea FTA
President Obama announced June 26 at a meeting of G-20 leaders in Canada a timeframe for advancing the U.S. free trade agreement with South Korea, which was signed in 2007. “I want to make sure that everything is lined up properly by the time that I visit Korea in November,” Obama said. “And then in the few months that follow that, I intend to present it to Congress. … It will strengthen our commercial ties and create enormous potential economic benefits and create jobs here in the United States, which is my number one priority.” more

U.S. Russia Reach Agreement on Poultry Trade, Aim to Resolve WTO Accession Issues by Fall
After a full day of meetings in Washington June 24, President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said they hope to resolve by the end of September the remaining bilateral issues concerning Russia’s longstanding bid to join the World Trade Organization. Though neither president explicitly said so, it appears that what they called a “renewed energy” toward meeting this goal was spurred by an agreement by Russia, once the largest foreign market for U.S. poultry producers, to again begin accepting imports of U.S. poultry. more...
Exporters Optimistic Over Move on Currency
Embracing China’s decision to let its currency move more freely, American businesses said on Monday that the move would make it easier to compete against Chinese companies and would help reduce the United States trade deficit. They cautioned, though, that the rise in the currency, the renminbi, is expected to be gradual, even if many American economists say it is 20 to 40 percent undervalued. more...
Bersin Pushes Security, Trade Integration
Customs and Border Protection should stop looking at security and trade facilitation as a balancing act between opposites but see them as an integrated whole, Commissioner Alan Bersin told a conference of Customs officials Tuesday morning. “Trade and security are not opposites, but two sides of a single coin. We are not in a position where we have to balance the two,” Bersin said. more...

D.D. WILLIAMSON LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE CARAMEL COLOR IN NORTH AMERICA
LOUISVILLE, KY, USA-- (June 23, 2010) -- D.D. Williamson has developed an acid-proof, Class One caramel color for North American customers. The darkest Class One caramel color in D.D. Williamson’s product line, the new product provides stability below pH 2.5 and in alcohol up to 65% ABV.
“Caramel Color 520 provides a new option – flavor and beverage developers can now select a darker, Class One with acid stability,” said Greg Kreder, Product Development Scientist. “It is minimally processed and demonstrates superior stability in acid compared to standard Class One caramel colors,” added Kreder.
For those customers exporting to the European Union, the new caramel color may be labeled as “Colour Plain Caramel” or “Burnt Sugar” depending on the function the product is serving in the food or beverage application. If flavor rather than color represents the purpose, then “Burnt Sugar” is a label option. The European Technical Caramel Association, chaired by D.D. Williamson’s Barry Foley, agreed on ‘decision-tree’ labeling of Burnt Sugar in November 2009.
D.D. Williamson will feature the new product in iced tea at Booth 6229 next month at the IFT Food Expo in Chicago. For a sample of Caramel Color 520, please contact your D.D. Williamson sales representative or e-mail info@ddwmson.com.
