Argentine Delegation visits Kentucky World Trade Center
Ying Juan Rogers, Executive VP of the Kentucky World Trade Center, met with the Argentinean delegation to discuss trade and education opportunities between Kentucky and Argentina. Delegation members are from Las Parejas which is located in the Belgrano Department, province of Sante Fe. The Las Parejas region is linked in different ways with the industrial belt and the export trade routes. Due to the industrial development in the area the neighboring towns- Armstrong and La Rosas have benefited from the flourishing activity. At present, these towns manufacture more than 60% of the total Argentine production of farm machines. Consul General of Argentina Marcelo Gerschenfeld accompanied the delegation comprised of Dr. Diego Martin Mansilla (Secretario de Gobierno), Graciela Carolina Capisano (International Relations) and Ing. Ricardo Pigini (Secretary of Production).The group spent part of their time in Louisville as well where they met with Ed Webb, President of the KWTC and attended the National Farm Machinery Show at the Expo Center. The delegation has invited the KWTC to bring a delegation to Argentina in the fall.

Illegal Aircraft Exports to Iran Net $2 Million Criminal Fine, $15 Million Civil Penalty
The Department of Justice announced Feb. 5 that a subsidiary of a United Kingdom-based company will pay one of the largest-ever fines for an export violation after pleading guilty a two-count criminal information in connection with its illegal export of three commercial Boeing 747 aircraft from the U.S. to Iran. A DOJ press release states that the subsidiary will pay a $2 million criminal fine and be placed on corporate probation for five years. More...
China to Impose AD Duties on U.S. Chicken Products
China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced that beginning Feb. 13 it will impose new antidumping duties on imports of U.S. whole chickens, chicken sausage and other products. The preliminary duties will range from 43.1% to 105.4% and must be deposited until the ministry makes a final dumping determination. A Reuters article cited the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council as saying that the duties “will virtually eliminate U.S. chicken exports to China,” which currently total about $800 million a year, for the foreseeable future.”
USDA May Ease Import Restrictions on Certain Agricultural Goods
The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is considering easing the import restrictions on the following agricultural goods.
• fresh figs, pomegranates and baby kiwi fruit grown in Chile
• fresh false coriander from Panama
• fresh male summer squash flowers from Israel more...
Export Control Reform 2010: Transforming the Legal Architecture of Dual-Use and Defense Trade Control
Neena Shenai, an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, has added an interesting perspective to the export control reform debate in her working paper entitled Export Control Reform 2010: Transforming the Legal Architecture of Dual-Use and Defense Trade Controls (available here in PDF format). Ms. Shenai, an attorney, is well-suited to provide this perspective given her experience in the private sector and in government, which includes serving as a law clerk to a judge at the U.S. Court of International Trade, practicing international trade law at a leading law firm and serving as an advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Export Administration at the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security.More...

China to return to double digital growth in 2010
A top Chinese think tank forecasted the nation’s economy would experience a mild rebound this year, with gross domestic product expanding around 10 percent year on year.
Among the three economic engines, investment is expected to contribute 6.3 percentage points to the GDP growth, while consumption will contribute 4.2 percentage points. Net export will drag down the growth rate by 0.5 percentage points, the Center for Forecasting Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said in a report issued Saturday.more...
New ACE Release Set for Feb. 14
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that new Automated Commercial Environment capabilities related to the filing and processing of antidumping and countervailing duty entries and case management, which were delayed twice due to technical issues and extreme weather in the Washington, D.C., area, will be deployed Feb. 14.
