The Association of Southeast Asian Nations signed a free trade agreement Feb. 27 with Australia and New Zealand. A joint statement indicates that the agreement includes provisions on goods, services, electronic commerce, movement of natural persons, investment, dispute settlement, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures, intellectual property and competition. The FTA is ASEAN’s fourth (following agreements with China, Korea and Japan) and the first that Australia and New Zealand have jointly negotiated with other countries.
