U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted to its Web site a notice informing the trade community that for all continuous bond submissions approved on or after Oct. 1, 2009, the Revenue Division is no longer faxing copies of approved submissions to the bond filer. The Revenue Division will, however, continue to mail copies of approved continuous bond submissions to both the surety and the bond principals. In addition, subject to certain limitations, the Revenue Division will provide copies to the bond filer upon request. CBP notes that a copy of a continuous bond is not required to be filed in conjunction with a request to terminate and/or replace that bond.
CBP also points out that companies with an ACE Portal account have unprecedented and immediate access to continuous bond information. Brokers will need access to their clients’ ACE Portal importer accounts to access that information, but the ABI bond query is still an option for brokers as well.
