KWTC receives WTCA certification

wtd
KWTC's new certification

The Kentucky World Trade Center has been certified by the World Trade Centers Association in six categories: Trade Information Services, Business Services, Trade Education Services, Group Trade Missions, Tenant Services, and Trade Technology Innovations.

The certification was announced at the WTCA General Assembly, held in Dubai in November. According to Robert Frueh, Chairman of the Quality & Standards Committee for the World Trade Center Association, certification is important because the WTCA fosters long-term global competitiveness, and certification measures a baseline of consistent service to a World Trade Center’s membership. About one-third of all WTCs worldwide are certified.

The KWTC is excited to present this mark of distinction, and will continue to offer the highest value of services to its members.

Brazil rescinds expansion of import license requirements
According to reports from the Sao Paulo office of Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services Inc., an outpouring of opposition from business executives has prompted Brazil to rescind a significant expansion of its import license requirements just days after it was originally announced. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the measure was a “phenomenal” mistake and ordered the ministries of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and Finance to suspend what had widely been seen as a protectionist measure. 10+2 importer security filing rule now in effect
The “10+2” importer security filing rule took effect as scheduled Jan. 26 after U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that this rule would not be affected by a White House request for a 60-day delay of all pending regulations. As a result, importers and maritime cargo carriers must now submit additional cargo data to CBP before vessels are permitted entry into the country. More...

White House request to suspend pending regulations affects trade rules

Legislative update: Fast start for trade bills
Although the conventional wisdom is that major trade policy initiatives are unlikely to emerge from Congress in the near term, a good deal of legislation that will affect international trade has already been introduced in both the House and Senate. Not all of these bills will see congressional action on their own, but those that don’t could be incorporated into other pieces of legislation, whether a broad trade bill like the one introduced recently in the House (H.R. 496) or an unrelated measure.
