Former Governor Paul Patton; President & CEO of Community Trust Bancorp Jean R. Hale, and Mr. Jim Booth from Booth Energy, Roger Mullins from Johnson Industries and Jim Moore from Emeco Equipment, who have just returned from a China coal trade mission, are confirmed to speak at the program.
China’s economy is the fastest growing major nation in recent history with consistent annual GDP growth rates well above 10%. With a rapidly rising education level of skilled workers, ever-increasing emphasis on R&D, rapid development of middle-class, and growing purchasing power, China provides a huge opportunity for all US companies. China is also the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal, which accounts for approximately 74 percent of China’s primary energy consumption. After the Recalls: The Future Landscape of Importing from China
Join Erika Schoenberger as she presents “After the Recalls: the Future Landscape of Importing from China.”
Erika Schoenberger is a Litigation Associate in the Columbus Office of Frost Brown Todd LLC. Her presentation will focus on the steps both the U.S. and China have taken since the highly publicized recalls of "made in China" products last year. Erika will highlight what you need to know about pending U.S. legislation and the Chinese government's recent legislative and enforcement reactions to the recalls. She will then discuss steps that both businesses and their counsel must know as they try to navigate the evolving landscape of importing goods from China to the United States.
Erika has recently focused on issues involving juvenile and imported products, particularly those in China. Erika litigates both toxic tort and defective product cases. In September of last year, Erika and Joe Walker of Frost Brown Todd attended the U.S.-Sino Consumer Product Safety Summit in Washington, D.C. During the Summit, they also attended a closed door luncheon with Wei Chuanzhong, Deputy Chief of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), and his staff. Erika and Joe presented at the Defense Research Institute conference on Product Liability, and have published a series of articles and client advisories on product importing issues, product recalls, and product legislation since attending the 2007 Summit, which are available at www.frostbrowntodd.com.
