Canada, Jordan to Negotiate FTA

February 25, 2008

Trade minister David Emerson announced recently that Canada will launch negotiations on a free trade agreement with Jordan this April. The FTA would be Canada’s first in the Middle East and could help boost its competitiveness with the U.S. and the European Union, which already have FTAs with Jordan. A government press release noted that trade between Canada and Jordan totaled $76 million in 2007, mostly Canadian exports of forest products, farm goods, machinery and equipment.
