Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI):
New Initiative to Help Local Businesses Take Advantage of Global Opportunities

January 15, 2008

Greater Louisville Inc., the metro chamber of commerce, has teamed up with the Kentucky World Trade Center to develop a new resource for companies and entrepreneurs interested in international business opportunities. The Global Business Strategies initiative includes an event series called Global Business Forums and five peer-based Global Business Networks focused on the international markets of Europe, China, India, Russia and Latin America. "Global Business Strategies will offer our region's small and mid-sized businesses exceptional access to the expertise and insight they need to begin or expand international sales efforts," Robert Brown, president of the Kentucky World Trade Center, said in a news release. "The process can be complex, but this program has been designed to demystify the details and make the concept of doing business internationally more approachable."

The Global Business Forums begin next month and will feature guest speakers from the regional business community. The first event will focus on exporting; it is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Speakers will include Lynn Cooper, president and CEO of BFW Inc., and Nigel Travis, president and CEO of Papa Johns International Inc. Tickets are $30 for GLI members and $50 for others. To register, call (502) 625-0085 or visit www.greaterlouisville.com/events.

Membership for the Global Business Networks will open in the spring. These peer networks will be available only to GLI and KWTC members, and will focus on marketing, logistics, cross-cultural communication, negotiation protocols, regulatory issues and other aspects of doing business abroad.
More networks may be added in the future, depending upon need and interest.
