What do the Eiffel Tower, Space Needle, ice cream cones, and hot dogs have in common? They all made their debut at a World's Fair! The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris; the Space Needle was constructed for the Seattle World's Fair in 1962; and both the ice cream cone and the hot dog first appeared at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904.
When and where will the first World ‘s Fair of the 21st Century be held? The 2005 World Exposition (Expo 2005) will be held in Aichi, Japan, from March 25 - September 25, 2005. Eight international organizations and over 120 countries, including the United States, have announced official participation in the Expo.
The main theme of Expo 2005 is “Nature's Wisdom.” The Expo will propose a new global model for society in the 21st century, bringing together the world's talent to create a model community for the future where humans can live in harmony with nature.
Fascinating exhibits are currently being built at the Expo site in the areas around Nagakute and Seto. Nagakute, the larger area of the two, will build a Global Commons where different countries will present cultural exhibitions. This area is also where visitors will be able experience cutting edge technologies at the Corporate Pavilions. The Seto area will include a Forest Experience Zone where visitors will interact closely with nature. Traveling from one area to the other will be easy, as visitors can ride on hydrogen-powered fuel cell hybrid buses, developed by Toyota.
If you have ever thought about visiting Japan, 2005 will be the year to go! Tickets are now on sale at discounted prices.
