Freedom Tower Will Be World’s Tallest Building,
Reclaim World Trade Center Site

On July 4, 2004 New York Governor George E. Pataki, New Jersey Governor James E. McGreevey, and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg laid the cornerstone for the Freedom Tower, which will serve as the new soaring icon of the World Trade Center site. The new structure will rise 1,776 feet, honoring the year of the United States' independence, and will be the world's tallest building when completed in 2008. Broadcast antennas will bring the building's total height to more than 2,000 feet. CLICK HERE to read more.

KWTC Leads Successful Trade Mission to China

The Kentucky World Trade Center (KWTC) organized a successful trade mission to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Dongguan, China from November 12-19, 2004. Mission participants included representatives from Lectrodryer, National Products, Shipper’s Supply, IDEA, TubeMaster and the Mayor’s Office for Economic Development in Lexington. The American Embassy in China The U.S. Embassy in Beijing has put together an Intellectual Property Toolkit to teach U.S. exporters how to protect their intellectual property in China. The publication may be found on the embassy’s website at www.usembassy-china.org.cn/ipr/


Tax Incentives for Exporters Still Exist

Aaron Thompson As a result of the recently enacted American Jobs Creation Act of 2004, the tax benefits previously available to U.S. exporters by virtue of the Extraterritorial Income Exclusion (ETI) will be phased out by the end of 2006. However, there are still provisions of the Internal Revenue Code that can provide significant tax benefits to the closely held exporter. CLICK HERE to read more

Louisville Hosts Sister Cities Summit

Louisville rolled out the red carpet this fall when Mayor Jerry Abramson hosted a Sister Cities Summit - a historic reunion of Louisville's Sister Cities - from September 8-12, 2004. In total, 111 Sister City delegates from 8 cities around the globe converged in Louisville for two days of workshops and four days of networking events.

Jiujiang, China becomes Louisville’s Seventh Sister City

Mayor Jerry Abramson signed a formal Sister City agreement with Mayor Cai Xiaoming of Jiujiang, China on September 9, 2004. Jiujiang, China was chosen as a Sister City because, over twenty years ago, Kentucky and Jiangxi Province, where Jiujiang city is located, became Sister States.

The city’s chief economic activities include cotton production, ship-building, construction materials, oil pressing, and rice processing. Jiujiang also produces grain, juice, tea, timber, fish, bricks, tiles, and textiles, and has a large hydroelectric project nearby... Pillar industries such as the petrochemical, building materials, machinery, textile, garment, and power industries have been set up, and the infrastructure and investment environment continues to improve. Influential CEO from United Arab Emirates Visits Kentucky

Mrs. Al Gurg The KWTC co-sponsored a dinner program to welcome special guest and keynote speaker Mrs. Raja Easa Al Gurg from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Mrs. Al Gurg is the CEO of Al Gurg Group, which is comprised of 22 divisions that include Grundig, Stanton, United Colors of Benetton, Dulux and Unilever. Mrs. Al Gurg is also a member of the board of directors of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mrs. Al Gurg gave a compelling and very personal presentation about her experience as a Muslim businesswoman, wife and mother. CLICK HERE to read more
